Legendary in the Hip Hop Community

Houston reVision is legendary in the local hip-hop community and known for being original supporters of blending urban dance with remarkable athleticism in what is popularly called breaking. While maintaining the joy of community gathering, reVision connects one kid at a time to caring adults, positive peers, and programs that work like commUnity Night.

BUILDING COMMUNITIES OF KINSHIP

CommUnity Night is a weekly gathering at reVision’s southwest Houston headquarters on the Gethsemane Campus of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Every Thursday from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm youth visit their mentors, gather to hear a message of encouragement delivered by a peer, share a free hot meal prepared by volunteers, and participate in hip-hop, breakdance, and krumping dance battles.

MEETING KIDS WHERE THEY ARE

CommUnity Night is more than just a place to hang out and dance. It’s a place where kids can feel safe, supported, and loved. It’s a place where they can build relationships with caring adults and positive peers. It’s a place where they can learn new skills and talents. And it’s a place where they can find hope for the future.

MENTORING

One of the most important aspects of CommUnity Night is the mentoring program. Each youth is paired with a caring adult mentor who provides support, guidance, and encouragement. Mentors help youth with schoolwork, relationships, and personal development. They also provide a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on.

DANCE BATTLES

Another popular activity at CommUnity Night is the dance battles. Youth are invited to show off their hip-hop, breakdance, and krumping skills. The battles are a lot of fun, and they also help youth to build confidence and self-esteem.

 FREE FOOD

Every Thursday, reVision provides a free hot meal for all youth who attend CommUnity Night. The meals are prepared by volunteers, and they are always delicious. Food is a great way to nourish the bodies and minds of youth.

 HOPE

CommUnity Night is a place where youth can find hope for the future. They can see that there are people who care about them, and they can believe that they can achieve their dreams. CommUnity Night is where youth can build a better future for themselves and their community.
